{talk} Privacy and fungibility: how a blockchain does it (and doesn't)

Details
BOB is happy to host Sarang Noether of Monero Research Labs for a presentation on one of the most important topics in cryptocurrencies. Here is the abstract of the talk:
Is Bitcoin private? Is it anonymous and are assets interchangeable? Despite many assumptions to the contrary early in "blockchain history", the answer is a resounding no. The transparent nature of many blockchain ledgers leads to methods of analysis that make them unsuitable for many purposes. In this talk, we will discuss the importance of fungibility and privacy in distributed digital assets, focusing in particular on how Monero works to achieve these. Along the way, we'll examine different approaches, probe them for weaknesses and practical tradeoffs, and look at what might be coming next.
Lightning Talks: This talk will include lightning talks by community members. In 2 minutes anyone can present their idea, ask for help, recruit partners, or launch new projects. It's a perfect opportunity to find co-founders, coders, advisors, designers, and clients to help make your idea a reality. If you would like to present, please send BOB a message via the meetup.com group. There will be a limited number of spots, first come first serve.
Who should attend? All ages and experience levels are welcome. If you’re new, you’ll find friendly faces excited and ready to show you the ropes. If you’re a Bitcoin or open-blockchain expert, you’ll find like-minded people to discuss new or existing projects with.
Logistics: The event will be held at 2pm at mHUB, which is an innovation center for physical product development and manufacturing and a co-working community. It is located just east of Chicago Ave and Milwaukee Ave, just a few blocks from the Kennedy expressway and the Blue line.
We have changed rooms. Instead of the big room straight back, we'll be in a slightly smaller room on the other side of the co-working space. It's a bit trickier to get to. There will be signs and me and Ian will be around to direct you to the right location.
Pizza and non-alcoholic beverages provided. You are welcome to BYOB.
