Employers (such Uber and Amazon) monitor their workers very carefully, so as to extract every last possible drop of performance. In contrast, politicians are almost never monitored (most citizens do not even know their representative's name). And they are almost never fired at all (re-election rates are 80-90%), let alone for underperformance. Politicians work very little, get paid very much, have no idea how to do their job properly, and inflict their bad policies on the rest of us. What if we could force politicians to work as hard as Amazon workers? Paul will discuss how this can be done via event derivatives, aka prediction markets!

Paul has been interested in “Futarchy” (market governance) and prediction markets his entire adult life. In 2012, inspired by the fall of InTrade.com, he set out to decentralize the prediction market institution so as to protect it from coercive interference. His 2014 publication “Truthcoin” drew sponsorship offers from both Blockstream (Nov) and Roger Ver (Dec). Paul went with Roger, leaving his job as Statistician in the Yale econ department to develop the software in 2015-2016. From 2016-2018 he has worked on “Drivechain”, a P2P sidechains technology designed to bring the completed technology to Bitcoin (and do several other amazing things as well). He also publishes research articles on truthcoin.info.

It's a perfect opportunity to find co-founders, coders, advisors, designers, and clients to help make your idea a reality. If you would like to present, please send BOB a message via the meetup.com group. There will be a limited number of spots, first come first serve.

Who should attend? All ages and experience levels are welcome. If you’re new, you’ll find friendly faces excited and ready to show you the ropes. If you’re a Bitcoin or open-blockchain expert, you’ll find like-minded people to discuss new or existing projects with.

Logistics: The event will be held at 2 pm at mHUB, which is an innovation center for physical product development and manufacturing and a co-working community. It is located just east of Chicago Ave and Milwaukee Ave, just a few blocks from the Kennedy expressway and the Blue line. We will be in the classroom in the back. Look for the BOB signs and we will be in the lobby to guide you back to the correct room when you arrive.
