One of the hottest topics for the last year is definitely Lightning Network.
The ecosystem has grown immensely. And it’s looking to be very promising.

Ok, but why should I care about Lightning Network?

Because:
It allows more transactions per second on the Bitcoin network, and if we hope to reach hyperBitcoinization, we definitely need
something like the Lightning Network.
The direct consequence of more transactions per second means lower transaction fees for you as a Bitcoin user.

and
It allows you to do some very very interesting abstract things with Bitcoin(as in smart contract type stuff ) and it also helps with privacy.
