Join us for a fun, hands-on privacy workshop where you'll learn how to set up and run your own hardened Bitcoin node. Perfect for those who love diving into tech and want to embrace the principles of decentralization.
What is a hardened node you ask?
Hardening of a node simply ensures strong network security by protecting against unauthorized access, hacking, malware infections, and other threats.
What's the plan?
11:00am to 1:00pm: Laying the foundation for your hardened node
We'll kick off with the essentials for a hardened node. We’ll learn to install and configure a VPN and Tor to ensure your node's privacy and security. This session will set the stage for a robust and resilient Bitcoin node.
1:00pm to 2:00pm: Lunch Break
We take a lunch break, recharge, and get ready for the next phase of the workshop.
2:00pm to 5:00pm: Building the Core - Compiling and Running Bitcoin Core
Here we’ll dive into the core of Bitcoin technology by compiling Bitcoin Core (bitcoind) from scratch. We’ll break it down step-by-step:
- Finding the latest release
- Verifying signatures
- Compiling the code
- Configuring your node
- and more
We’ll guide you through every step using command line instructions, ensuring you gain hands-on experience in building and running your node.

This workshop is tailored for intermediate techie users who are passionate about self-sovereignty, privacy and want to manage their own Bitcoin node.
What will you need?
If you have a Unix-based laptop or a Raspberry Pi, you’re all set! Windows users sometimes face some issues but no worries we can try it out. And basic command line knowledge will come in handy too!
Non-techies might find this stuff challenging, so you can join to observe and learn from others.
