Why is the Arctic getting warmer?

Details

BkkSci is a monthly informal science and technology forum loosely based on Cafe Scientifique, held free of change in central Bangkok. We've been operating for about 10 years and have more than 2,000 members.

This month's topic: Why is the Arctic getting warmer?

Rapid and pronounced warming continues to drive the evolution of the Arctic environment. Cascading disruptions, extreme events, and increasing variability throughout the Arctic impact the safety and well-being of communities within and far away.

The warming in the region has been much faster than in the rest of the world, a phenomenon known as Arctic amplification. Over the last four decades, the average Arctic temperature increased nearly four times as fast as the global average.

This month, Alexander Smirnov, Senior researcher with a PhD in Physical oceanography will be explaining why this is happening.

Logistics:
This month we'll be meeting virtually on https://meet.jit.si/BangkokScientifique on your computer or as an app from the following links:

19.00 - presentation starts
