Same-sex marriage was legalized nationwide in the United States on June 26, 2015, following the landmark Supreme Court ruling in the case of Obergefell v. Hodges. The decision ruled that the fundamental right to marry is guaranteed to same-sex couples by both the Due Process Clause and the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.
