About us
This group was orginially dedicated to hiking Black Bear every other week. In late '24, we changed the focus of the group to hike Black Bear the last Saturday of every month.
We'll do this in conjunction with the Central Florida Adventure Seekers, a much larger group dedicated to doing a variety of activities across central Florida. If you're not a member of that group, I urge you to join. The link to that group is below.

RELEASE OF LIABILITY & ASSUMPTION OF RISK AGREEMENT: By attending ANY event of the group, you acknowledge that these events carry the risk of potential harm to myself up to and including the risk of injuries such as broken bones or muscle/tendon injuries, illness, disability, or death. These can be caused by slipping or falling off rocks due to loss of balance or lack of coordination; twisting ankles on rocks, brush, limbs; Acts of nature such as inclement weather, lightning, strong wind, extreme temperatures; drownings in rivers, streams, or other bodies of water; drinking unfiltered contaminated water or becoming dehydrated; succumbing to heat exhaustion; getting bit or stung by venomous reptiles, animals, or insects; and my own or other’s negligent or risky behaviors. This list is not exhaustive nor is it inclusive of all risks. In response, I release and hold harmless with respect to all injury, disability, death, or loss of property, whether caused by negligence or otherwise, the “Black Bear Wilderness Hikers” meetup group’s leadership as well as the designated leader of the event.

End of the Month Black Bear Hike

Join us for a high-energy, best-of-both-worlds adventure featuring our Monthly Black Bear Wilderness Hike, followed immediately by a well-earned takeover of the Sanford Food Truck Fiesta. We’re earning our calories first… then enjoying every bite.
🌲 Part 1: The Wild (The Hike)
We’ll kick off the day at Black Bear Wilderness Area, tackling a 7.1-mile loop that’s anything but ordinary. This premier Central Florida hike winds through shaded oak hammocks, lush cypress swamps, and narrow creek crossings, with sweeping views of the St. Johns River floodplain along the way.Keep your eyes open—we don’t call it Black Bear for nothing. Wildlife sightings often include deer and wild turkeys, and yes, the occasional bear has been spotted in the area. It’s the perfect chance to unplug, recharge, and immerse yourself in real Florida wilderness before shifting gears for the fun part.
The food truck fiesta in Sanford is optional.
🌮 Part 2: The Reward (The Fiesta)
After conquering the trail, we’ll head straight to Historic Downtown Sanford for the Sanford Food Truck Fiesta. Expect dozens of local food trucks, live music, and a lively community vibe. Whether you’re craving gourmet sliders, fusion tacos, loaded fries, or something sweet, you’ll have earned every single bite.

To make sure you’re trail-ready and food-truck-bound, please bring:- Hydration: 2–3 liters of water (mandatory for a 7-mile hike)
- Fuel: Energy-boosting snacks for the trail
- Protection: Bug repellent, sunscreen, and a hat
- Footwear: Sturdy hiking shoes or boots (uneven terrain expected)
