First Meeting: Discussing "Ghost Summer: Stories" by Tananarive Due

Details

Welcome to the very first gathering of the Black Narratives Collective! We're excited to kick off our book club, centered around celebrating Black authors and fostering connection among Black women (and warmly welcoming anyone enthusiastic about Black literature!).

For our inaugural read, we'll be diving into the captivating short story collection "Ghost Summer: Stories" by the acclaimed author Tananarive Due. This collection blends horror, fantasy, and Afro-futurism with a focus on Black experiences, often set in the intriguing town of Gracetown. Prepare for thought-provoking tales that explore themes of memory, loss, family, the supernatural, and more.

What to Expect:

  • A welcoming and inclusive space for Black women to connect and share their thoughts on the book.
  • An open discussion about the stories, themes, characters, and writing style of Tananarive Due.
  • An opportunity to meet fellow book lovers who share an interest in black literature.

How to Prepare:

  • Please try to read "Ghost Summer: Stories by Tananarive Due before our meeting. Don't worry if you don't finish every single story -- come ready to discuss the ones that resonated with you.
  • Bring your thoughts, insights, and any favorite passages you'd like to share.
  • Be ready to listen respectfully to others' perspectives.

We're looking forward to a fantastic first meeting and building a vibrant community of readers!
