Catching up on Current events in the Black Church
Details
So much is happening in and around the Black Church and Church at large today — stories of leadership, accountability, cultural influence, and harm continue to make headlines. For Black religious trauma survivors, these events often stir up complicated emotions: grief, anger, validation, or even a sense of déjà vu.
In this session, we’ll spend time together viewing video clips, listening to audio pieces, and reading articles about current events shaping the Black Church as well as the overall Church. But this isn’t just about staying updated — it’s about creating a safe space to:
- Name what comes up for us as survivors when we see these stories unfold.
- Draw connections between current events and our own lived experiences of spiritual abuse, manipulation, or silencing.
- Imagine together what accountability, healing, and healthier communities could look like for the future.
This will be a peer-led, discussion-centered gathering where your insights and reflections matter. Whether you’re feeling triggered, curious, or eager to process in community, you don’t have to hold it all alone — come share the space with others who understand.
