Navigating the Holiday Seasons With Difficult Family Dynamics
Details
For many Black religious trauma survivors, the holidays can bring up complicated emotions. Family gatherings can reopen old wounds—especially when loved ones are still deeply tied to the religious systems, expectations, or control we’ve worked so hard to heal from. Between unspoken tensions, religious conversations, and pressure to “just get along,” this time of year can feel more triggering than joyful.
Let's come together as a supportive community to:
- Explore how family roles and expectations shaped by religion affect us during the holidays.
- Identify ways to protect our peace and regulate our emotions when old patterns resurface.
- Share grounding practices, boundaries, and self-care tools to get through the season without losing ourselves.
This will be a safe and affirming space for Black survivors to connect, reflect, and receive community support while navigating the complexities of family, faith, and the holidays.
Come as you are—bring your experiences, your truth, and your desire to move through this season with more grace, awareness, and self-compassion.
*This session will be our 2nd session of the month due to the Thanksgiving Holiday.
