How Spiritual Abuse Impacts Black Identity, Mental Health, & Community
Details
January 2026 Spiritual Abuse Awareness Month Continues!!!
Leaving spiritually abusive spaces is not the end of the story — it is often the beginning of a long, complex aftermath. For Black spiritual abuse & religious trauma survivors, the impact of reaches far beyond belief systems. It touches identity, mental health, family relationships, community belonging, and one’s sense of safety in the world.
In Black communities, spiritual spaces are often deeply woven into culture, family life, and survival. When harm occurs within these spaces, survivors don’t just lose a church — they often lose community, identity, routine, relationships, and spiritual grounding all at once. This layered loss is rarely acknowledged or supported.
During this meetup event we will discuss things such as how spiritual abuse affects mental and emotional health, identity confusion after losing community, belonging and community and so much more.
Come connect with survivors as we hold space for each other and empower one another as we navigate this recovery journey.
See you all on January 22, 2026 at 7pm EST!!
