What we're about

A weekly meeting place for aspiring or already capable ballroom and swing dancers to meet. Guests are encouraged to wear elegant and romantic evening dress, preferably in 1930s style, improve their skills, dance on a wooden floor and drink and chat in a relaxed setting on a Friday night. There are ballroom classes from 6.30pm, every Friday, at two levels, beginners and improvers in two separate rooms, for those who wish to do them. Or members may arrive after the classes for the social dancing only.

Club members agree to buy at least one ticket and attend at least one dance a year.

The music played is linked to the period of the golden era of the dance, so we'll play mainly twenties music for Charleston, and tango, thirties music for quickstep, foxtrot and waltz, forties for swing, fifties for jive, rumba and so on. Our resident vocalist is the young operatic baritone Alistair Sutherland who sings without the assistance of a microphone, using only a voice trumpet. And we book orchestras at least one a month, such as the Art Deco Orchestra, the Ewan Bleach Sextet, the Roaring Twenties and the Jean Bentley Big Band.

Members will have the right to suggest and submit records to play and act as male or female taxi dancers, on the door and with assist with administration and promotions on a volunteer basis. Non members will be allowed to attend dances provided they buy a ticket and if we are not full.

Our current venue is the Indian YMCA at 41 Fitzroy Square, London W1T 6AQ, which has a large dance floor and stage. In addition to our weekly classes and socials we will hold monthly balls for all of 2018 and they will all be on the first or second Friday of every month. Tickets are on sale on line though 'Design my Night'. For the classes it's £10 for the class or socail only, or £15 for the class and social.

Early bird tickets for the monthly balls are £10 for early bird tickets, £15 for regular tickets or it's £20 on the door.

To encourage regular attendance one can buy four consecutive weeks of classes, social and one ball for just £29 . This 'four week pass' can be bought by paying in cash on the door any Friday after 6.15pm.
