Can Joy Be a Measure of Flourishing? A Black Women’s Philosophy Circle

Details

Welcome back to the Black Women of LA Philosophy Club. No PhD required—just curiosity, life experience, and a love for deep conversation.

For our third meetup, we'll to explore joy as a form of flourishing, inspired by Aristotle’s concept of eudaimonia—a life well-lived—and reimagined through Black feminist thought. If flourishing is more than achievement or status, how might joy itself guide what it means to live fully and intentionally?

Consider reflecting on these ahead of time:

  • When has joy shaped your sense of fulfillment or guided a meaningful choice?
  • Can joy itself be a standard for a life well-lived, beyond external measures of success?
  • Which thinkers or writers inspire you to see joy as central to flourishing?
  • How might cultivating joy intentionally transform the way we live, create, or connect?

Bring your thoughts, questions, and stories. This is a circle for conversation, not a lecture—your voice matters here.
