Blah Blah Book Club: July 2025 meetup

Details
This month, we will be reading and discussing Notes on a Scandal by Zoe Heller, short-listed for the 2003 Man Booker Prize, from our Open Choice category.
PLEASE NOTE - this is a short month, as our July Meetup falls on the SECOND Monday of the month.
BLURB - Schoolteacher Barbara Covett has led a solitary existence. Aside from her cat, she has few friends and no intimates. When Sheba Hart joins St. George’s as the new art teacher, Barbara senses the possibility of a new friendship, which begins with lunches, and continues with regular invitations to meals with Sheba’s seemingly close-knit family.
Barbara's loyalty to her new friend is passionate and unstinting, and when Sheba is discovered having an illicit affair with an underage male pupil, Barbara quickly elects herself as Sheba's chief defender as Sheba falls prey to the inevitable media circus. But all is not as it would seem in this dark story and, as Sheba will soon discover, a friend can be just as treacherous as any lover. (258 pages)
