BLAST BOOK CLUB - Death of the Author (Lake Worth)
Judy Ireland’s Home, Covered Bridge, 857 Worcester Lane - Apt A, Lake Worth, FL, USThe book this month is Death of the Author by Nnedi Okorafor. She is currently credited with the invention of the new genre “Africanfuturism” (different from Afrofuturism, which is associated with Octavia Butler.)
………
SYNOPSIS …
Nnedi Okorafor's novel, Death of the Author, follows disabled Nigerian American writer Zelu as her unexpected sci-fi hit catapults her to fame, only for her loss of narrative control and the blurring lines between her life and the fictional world of her book to become the story's central conflict. The story is a metafiction that interweaves Zelu's contemporary life with the futuristic narrative of her novel, Rusted Robots, and explores themes of identity, family dynamics, art, love, and what it means to be human as fame reshapes her reality.
……..
ABOUT THE AUTHOR …
Nnedi Okorafor is a Nigerian American author known for science fiction and fantasy for adults and children. Her award-winning work — including the Binti novella trilogy, the novel Lagoon, and Who Fears Death — all draw heavily on her dual heritage of American and Nigerian cultures. Okorafor also writes comics for Marvel, teaches as a professor at Arizona State University, and has adapted her work into TV and film projects.
