Lesbian Vampyres to Watch Out For (Singer Island)

Vampires (or earlier versions of life-sucking undead creatures) appear in the mythologies of almost every culture. This workshop will trace the history of vampire paradigms in modern literature, with a focus on how female vampires fit in - and have been erased. We’ll also highlight major lesbian vampires Carmilla, Gilda, Sterling O’Blivion, and others. Some discussion of important genre movies will be included as well.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER …..
BLAST founder Toni Armstrong Jr. has decades of effective experience in women’s music and lesbian community building. She’s been a concert producer, conference organizer, festival photographer, publisher (HOT WIRE, Paid My Dues), GLSEN youth leadership director, musician (Lavender Jane, Surrender Dorothy), writer/editor, and much more since the 1970s.
