SYNOPSIS ….. The Bad Seed (1956) is a classic psychological horror-thriller film about a seemingly angelic 8-year-old girl, Rhoda Penmark, who is secretly a manipulative, psychopathic killer, a fact her mother, Christine, uncovers after a schoolmate's mysterious death. Directed by Mervyn LeRoy, the movie explores themes of innate evil and nature vs. nurture, with standout performances from Patty McCormack as Rhoda and Nancy Kelly as her mother (both reprising their roles from the stage play). The film is known for its suspense, shocking subject matter for its time, and a controversial, studio-imposed ending.
