ABOUT THE AUTHOR ……
Octavia E. Butler (1947–2006) was a pioneering science fiction author — the first black woman, and the first in her genre to receive a MacArthur Fellowship "genius" grant. Renowned for exploring themes of injustice, race, gender, and environmental disaster, she wrote acclaimed works including Kindred and the Parable series. Overcoming childhood shyness and dyslexia, she has won numerous prestigious awards and became a seminal figure in Afrofuturism.
