TONIGHT’S PROGRAM …..
Performed by the Core Ensemble (actor, cello, piano, percussion), the show will offer theatrical scenes from Violeta Parra’s life and musical arrangements of some of her most well-loved songs. Known as “the Mother of Latin American Folk Music,” or “the Joan Baez of Latin America,” her songs reflected social concerns and was a significant part of the Chilean folk revival of the 1950s and ‘60s. Her contributions to music have left an indelible mark on the cultural heritage of Latin America. The program also features songs made popular by two other Latina singing superstars, Celia Cruz of Cuba and Chavela Vargas of Mexico. Reception to follow the show.
