SYNOPSIS…
Lucy by Jamaica Kincaid is a semi-autobiographical novel following a 19-year-old Caribbean woman who leaves Antigua to work as an au pair for a wealthy white couple in America. She struggles with homesickness, explores her sexuality, and grapples with the lingering emotional scars of colonialism and maternal betrayal.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Antiguan-American author Jamaica Kincaid (born Elaine Potter Richardson), now 77 years old, is best known for her powerful, semi-autobiographical novels, lyrical essays, and unflinching explorations of colonialism, feminism, and complex family relationships. Born in St. John’s (the capital of Antigua and Barbuda), she currently lives in Vermont and is African American Studies in Residence Emerita at Harvard University.
