Let's dress up and hike! Costume attire highly recommended!! If you're around, please Join me for a day hike at Palisades Interstate Park! The hike will be 8/9 miles long and last approximately 5-6 hours. This hike is perfect for beginners who can hike some distance, there will be some scrambling (Giant Stairs) and a steep incline, however there is a bail out prior to this section to return to the parking lot! (Giant Stairs takes 30-45 minutes to complete).
ROUTE:
We will begin at the Visitors parking lot and bear left onto the Light Blue trail, where we will continue on this till, we get to the Police Station off Exit 2 on the Palisades and Jump on WHITE which takes us along the shoreline, we will continue on WHITE taking the Giant Steps and passing the Waterfall. We will then jump back on Light Blue back to the Parking Lot.
Depending on interest, a carpooling sign-up sheet will be sent out on Thursday. You can also take an Uber to the Trail since it`s 15min. from Washington Heights off the 181st Street.

Things to bring: Clothing for changing temps and good hiking boots/shoes since the ground could be wet and muddy; at least 2 liters of water, lunch, hiking snacks as needed. Spikes (if there's ice on the ground) and poles may be helpful. If you share a ride with someone, please bring extra cash to share the cost of gas and tolls with your driver which can range anywhere from $15-$20 per person. For rental cars it varies, but it`s around $40-$50 per person which is non-refundable once booked unless you get someone to take your spot. A sign-up sheet for carpooling will be sent out.
NOTE: You should be able to follow a map, understand possible bailouts, and must be realistic in your assessment of your own abilities and be prepared to hike alone. You are responsible for bringing appropriate gear, supplies, clothing, first aid, and lights. You should review topographic maps and trail features carefully; understanding topography of any hike is key to your knowing where you are, where you're going, and how to get back.
