LAST MINUTE Day hike to Sunfish Pond

The weather is calling for a nice day hike this Sunday (temps in the upper 80's). Sunfish Pond in Delaware Water Gap is one of my favorite hiking destinations. It's not too far from NYC and I just love the nature there.

The hike will be about 8 miles long. We'll take a shorter route and avoid Mt. Tammany, so you can expect only about 1,000 ft elevation gain along the trail. This is a really nice, though strenuous hike, which can be done even by physically fit beginners.

The number of participants is limited only by the number of cars we have to carpool. Please sign up on the waiting list and once we have a car spot for you I'll move you to the "yes" column. On Friday evening I will send an email to everyone to organize the carpool.

We'll be leaving NYC around 7:30 a.m on Sunday. Cars meet at Dunnfield Creek parking lot, 70 miles west of NYC on I-80 at 9:00 a.m. The parking lot is just before the last exit on I-80 in NJ. After the hike we may stop for dinner in Stroudsburg, PA. Expect to come back to NYC around 6 p.m. or 8 p.m. if going for dinner.

The cost will be moderate - gas & toll money to the drivers (~$20 per person) and dinner after the hike. Please bring enough cash with you to pay both the gas money and the dinner!

Regarding gear, remember that while the weather forecast is a sunny hot day. Bring at minimum 2 liters of water to drink. Also bring a lunch snack, sunblock, sunglasses and a rain jacket (though rain is not in the forecast). The trail can be hiked in any good shoes, though boots are preferred.
