Lyndhurst Mansion Flower Show + Hike at Rockefeller State Park Preserve

Spring is in the air! Join us for a full day of architecture appreciation and outdoor recreation. We'll take a self-guided tour of the majestic Lyndhurst Mansion, once the home of railroad tycoon Jay Gould, which will be decked out with opulent floral arrangements for their annual Flower Show. After touring the mansion, we'll wander the grounds of the estate, explore the on-site Flower House market with 40+ vendors, and have lunch. Food options include a pop-up gourmet cafe and at least one food truck. After wrapping up at the house, we'll head to nearby Rockefeller State Park Preserve for a 6-7 mile hike of moderate intensity (hike details: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/new-york/rockefeller-park-preserve-loop).

IMPORTANT: Tickets for Flower House 2026 at Lyndhurst Mansion are limited and you must purchase your ticket in advance ($36.75). As soon as possible, please purchase a ticket for the 10:30am entry slot on Sunday, April 19th. If the 10:30am slot is sold out, please purchase a ticket for 10:45am. If you would like to skip the mansion tour, you can join us to explore the grounds of the estate and to visit the Flower House market by purchasing a Grounds Pass ($16.50) at the link above.

Only physically fit individuals should participate in the hike, though no prior hiking experience is necessary. We will carpool from Lyndhurst Mansion to the Rockefeller State Park Preserve Visitor Center (~15 minute drive) where we'll begin our hike. Please wear sturdy hiking boots or trail runners and bring at least 1.5 liters of water for the hike.

TRANSPORTATION: A carpool sign-up sheet will be circulated two days before the event. Depending on where you’re leaving from and whether you’ll be driving or taking Metro-North, you should allow approximately 1 hr 15 min of travel time if coming from NYC.

If you wish to arrive by public transit, the nearest Metro-North station is at Irvington, which is a short uber/taxi ride to the mansion. Please consult train timetables in advance and plan accordingly.

Timeline:
10:15am: Arrive at Lyndhurst Mansion
10:30am: Self-guided tour with group begins
1:30pm: Depart Lyndhurst Mansion
1:45pm: Arrive at Rockefeller State Park Preserve Visitor Center and begin hike
5pm: Finish hike. Optional post-hike drinks/dinner at nearby Captain Lawrence Brewing Company
