History of Onmyoji and Warding off Evil

Kyoto is a city with a long history and many legends. Did you know that "Onmyoji" (Japanese occult masters) once worked behind the scenes to protect this city?
In this workshop, we will learn about the secret lives of Onmyoji, who kept the city safe by managing time and cleansing "kegare" (bad energy). We will talk about the famous Seimei Abe and the meaning of "Nagoshi no Harae," a special summer ritual held at shrines in late June.
Learning this history will make your time in Kyoto even more special.

陰陽師と厄除けのヒストリー

歴史と伝説を抱える古都・京都。 実はこの街は、かつて陰陽師と呼ばれるものたちが裏舞台で活躍していました。本ワークショップでは、目には見えない「穢れ」を払い、時間を管理することで都を守り続けた陰陽師たちの真の姿に迫ります。 安倍晴明の話や、京都の各神社で6月末に行われる「夏越の祓（なごしのはらえ）」へと繋がる、暦と祈りの物語を紐解いていきましょう。

歴史を知ることで、いつもの京都が少し違って見えてくるはずです。
