What we’re about

Blerd is simply shorthand for black nerd (black + nerd = blerd).  Blerd describes black people who enjoy things nerdy and geek, regardless of gender, sexuality, etc.

Join us for everything from book club to brunch, comic swaps to game nights, museum visits to online watch-a-longs, happy hours to board games, and whatever else comes to mind!

This group aims to celebrate us embracing our nerdy sides! Whether you've memorized every episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, are a chess champion, love cosplay, or indulge in some other form of nerddom, we want to hear what you're passionate about and geek out with you.

We also understand the complexity of identity, and that while there are shared experiences in being a nerd in any way, there are also those that are unique to being just you.

The Serious Stuff

We have the following rules and guidelines to keep things running smoothly. For more detail, please visit our discussion page on the group rules.
Do not harass, threaten, or stalk group members. Hate speech will not be tolerated.
• Participation is expected - inactivity (3+ months without visiting the website) or multiple No Shows to events (RSVPing "yes," but then not attending) are grounds for removal from the group.
• Some of our events involve alcohol. Your participation in such events is done with the expectation that you are of legal drinking age and will partake responsibly.
• While children are not discouraged from attending, many of our events are not planned with them in mind. Events that are specifically child-free or child-friendly will be marked as such.
If you have any issues - be it with group/event accessibility, other members, etc - please contact the group Organizer, Erika Phillips.
