Reading Group on Levinas's Totality and Infinity
Details
This reading group is dedicated to a close and collective reading of Emmanuel Levinas’s Totality and Infinity.
Rather than treating the text as an abstract philosophical system, we will approach it as a living inquiry into ethics, alterity, and the limits of totalizing thought. Our aim is to read slowly, clarify key concepts, and explore how Levinas’s ideas speak to contemporary questions—especially those concerning capitalism, subjectivity, responsibility, and relationality.
No advanced background in philosophy is required. What matters most is a willingness to read attentively, think together, and remain open to difficulty and disagreement. Participants are welcome to join simply to listen, ask questions, or share reflections at their own pace.
The session will be conducted in English, and discussion will be informal and collaborative.
