short bio: Ali leads the engineering for an Amazon initiative to build services for selling branded merchandize from mobile apps and games. Prior to Amazon, Ali cofounded three companies in the Bay Area, including Active Decisions, one of the first shopping recommendation engines. One of Ali’s first startup companies, FasTV, created an early video search engine on the web. Vinobly believes that the brick & mortar retail experience is highly valuable, but could use a technology and data upgrade. Starting with consumer categories that are confusing, and where discovery is desired, we hope to help the consumer easily navigate choices and discover great new product.
We're starting in wine, a notoriously overwhelming category by partnering with brick and mortar stores to aggregate and tag inventory with relevant attributes. Then, using our proprietary recommendation algorithm, we suggest 4 wines that are available in a local store and match the food pairing, palate and budget of the user.
We just launched last week and have already been describe as the "Easy" button for wine.

We are bringing the next-gen of video tech to Android via a custom video
engine built on the latest graphics tech (OpenGL ES 3.0+) and the hardware
accelerated MediaCodec API of Android. Built from the ground up our video
engine can back many different types of video enabled apps from streaming
to deep effects composition without adding significant app size bloat. Our
first is a creative video capture and effects composition app which
features an open ended in app effects preset editor allowing amateur and
professionals alike to create advanced video effects by freely combining
~150 image operations in an open ended manner. The total app size of our
initial app on Android Lollipop OS (ART runtime) is 3.5MB / 2.6Mb on
Kitkat (Dalvik) which allows us to release a suite of video enabled apps
where all competitors single apps easily exceed 20MB and many over 50MB
(Vine).
