Agenda 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM

Opening Remarks—How Gaming Changed Silicon Valley

With the birth of Atari in 1972, the San Francisco Bay Area has strong roots in the gaming industry, and now represents the biggest clusters of video game companies in the world. Electronic Arts, Sony, Ubisoft, 2K, Crystal Dynamics, Activision, and Capcom are among the myriad companies with a presence in the region. Indeed, Steve Jobs's first real job after he got back from a pilgrimage to India in 1974 seeking enlightenment was as a technician for Atari. Atari's cofounder Nolan Bushnell later pointed out that 'Steve was very often the smartest guy in the room, and he would let people know that.'
