A few miles southeast of Edinburg, VA, the George Washington National Forest contains a couple of noteworthy overlooks offering beautiful views: Copernicus Ridge and the Bill Kruszka Overlook.

Combining these two shorter hikes into one will give us a strenuous hike totaling about 8.4 miles with about 2,100' of elevation gain. We'll do Copernicus Ridge (about 3.4 miles) first, then cross Edinburg Gap Road to do the second piece (about 5 miles). At about 5.8 miles into the hike, we'll arrive at the Bill Kruszka Overlook where we'll pause to rest, have a snack, and enjoy the view, then we'll return to the parking.

Edinburg Gap provides easy access to the Massanutten Trail, as well as a network of OHV trails. (Off Highway Vehicle = 4WD, ATVs, motorcycles) A couple of sections of our hike will be on or near those trails, but by doing this hike on a Monday, I hope to minimize encountering OHV traffic and noise.

Trailhead: We'll meet at 8:45am in the Edinburg Gap parking area, coordinates 38.788250, -78.522743. We hike at 9:00am.
