EDIT: This was originally posted for Tuesday, June 9th. I had to change it to Monday, June 8th.

ROUTE: This beautiful circuit hike in the Central District of Shenandoah National Park is popular for the many waterfalls and cascades along the way. Starting at the eastern park boundary near Syria, VA, we'll complete the circuit in a clockwise direction, ascending the Cedar Run Trail for about 3 miles. This will be a strenuous climb. We'll then follow the yellow-blazed horse trail to connect to the Whiteoak Canyon Trail. After pausing for a snack near Upper Whiteoak Falls, we'll descend along the Robinson River back to the parking.

DIFFICULTY: Strenuous
DISTANCE: ~ 8 miles
ELEVATION GAIN: ~ 2,400 feet
PACE: We'll hike at a 2.0 - 2.5 mph pace on average, but more slowly on steep or slippery terrain. We'll regroup at all intersections.

BRING: water, snacks/lunch, hiking boots/shoes, and first aid kit. Depending on the water level, water shoes and hiking poles may come in handy for stream crossings. (see photo above)

DOGS: Dogs will not be allowed for this hike.

RSVP: If your plans change and you cannot come, change your RSVP promptly, so another hiker may take your place.

FEES: Park entry fee: $30 per vehicle, unless you have a National Parks Pass. https://www.nps.gov/shen/planyourvisit/fees.htm
Even if you are hiking from the boundary, you must have an entrance permit or annual pass.
