Waterslide at Cedar Run Falls ๐๐ฆ
Details
Join us on June 6 at 11:00 AM for a social hike at Cedar Run. This is a demanding trek that focuses on the lower section of the canyon, leading up to the natural rock waterslide.
Be advised that this trail is exceptionally difficult. The terrain is steep, rugged, and relentless. You will be navigating a rough path with significant elevation gain over a short distance. This hike requires high physical stamina and steady footing.
We will start from the bottom at the Whiteoak Canyon/Cedar Run parking area and hike up to the waterslide. The total distance is approximately 3.5 to 4 miles round trip. Along the way, we will stop at several falls for those who wish to take a dip.
The primary destination is the natural waterslide, a smooth rock face where the creek spills into a deep, cold pool. It is a fast, exhilarating slide, but use of it is at your own risk. Once we have spent time at the slide, we will descend back the way we came.
Parking and Fees
The parking lot at the lower trailhead is small and fills up very quickly. Carpooling is highly recommended to ensure everyone can find a spot. Shenandoah National Park requires a $30 entrance fee per vehicle or a valid annual pass. If the main lot is full, nearby private lots may charge a separate cash fee.
RSVP
A minimum of five participants is required for this event to proceed. Please RSVP by May 30. If the minimum is not met by that deadline, the hike will be cancelled to maintain a proper social atmosphere.
Gear
Wear high quality hiking boots with excellent grip; the rocks are slippery and the trail is unforgiving. Bring plenty of water, snacks, and a towel if you plan on getting in the water.
