Rivanna River Paddle ๐ถ
Details
Join us on June 27 at 12:00 PM for a social float down the Rivanna River. This outing is designed for cooling off and connecting with others on the water.
Logistics and Timing
We will meet at Riverview Park at 12:00 PM to drop off a vehicle at the finish point and load the boats. From there, we will head to the Darden Towe boat launch to get on the water by roughly 12:15 PM. Coordination is key for moving gear and arranging rides between the start and finish.
The trip covers approximately 2.6 miles and will take roughly 3 hours, allowing plenty of time for breaks. We will stop at Hogwaller for a drink and a few rips on the rope swing along the way.
Inflatable paddle boards are the preferred vessel due to their high clearance. It is highly recommended to remove the fins from the bottom to avoid snagging. Kayaks are welcome but may encounter clearance issues in shallower sections. If you have a larger craft, sharing space with others is an option. I have an extra paddle board available, room on my two person board, and an extra vest for those who need gear. Please reach out to arrange this beforehand.
You must have a safety vest onboard at all times. Even though the water is rarely higher than waist deep, this activity is at your own risk. Getting bucked off in the rapids into rocks is a real possibility and is not a pleasant experience.
A minimum of five participants is required for this event to proceed. Please RSVP by June 20. If the minimum is not met, the event will be cancelled to ensure a proper social group size.
