John B Stephenson Memorial Forest Nature Preserve and Anglin Falls

Details

The John B. Stephenson Memorial Forest State Nature Preserve offers a compelling hiking experience for several reasons. It's a place where you can immerse yourself in the beauty of Kentucky's natural landscape.
The preserve is home to Anglin Falls, a 75-foot waterfall that is one of the tallest in the region, especially impressive during periods of heavy rain. PLEASE NOTE this is a seasonal waterfall and may or may not be flowing. The trail to the falls passes through a forested gorge, offering a more moderate hike with opportunities to explore rocky ridge lines, limestone outcroppings, and small caves the closer we get to the fall area. The area is known for its diverse plant life, including over 450 species of native plants and 32 different types of ferns.
The 1.7-mile out-and-back trail to Anglin Falls begins near Anglin Creek and ascends through a heavily wooded gorge. Hikers can enjoy the sounds of songbirds and the sight of boulders, some the size of cars, along the way. The trail offers photo opportunities, especially at the boulder field near the falls
