Star Gap Arch - Jailhouse Rock - Rocky Branch Overlook - Red River Gorge

Trail Conditions: good, some parts could be overgrown

The Star Gap Arch trail travels along a ridge which extends northward off of the Tunnel Ridge Road/Double Arch Trail. Not being one of the "official" numbered Red River Gorge trails it is a bit rough in places with overgrowth. A descent/climb in and out of a gap with some rock scrambling makes it moderate difficulty. Also be aware that this trail contains some very precipitous drop-offs, so some caution is advised.

The Jailhouse Rock trail also travels along a ridge that extends northward off of the Tunnel Ridge Road/DA Trail. The trail becomes more challenging as you get closer to the Jailhouse Rock lookout. Some rocky sections and scrambling are required.

Rocky Branch Overlook at the end of Tunnel Ridge Road/DA trail the unofficial trail is an extension of Tunnel Ridge it parrels the remainder of the DA trail heading North.

Essential Hiking Gear

• Sturdy hiking boots or shoes with good traction
• 2-3 Liters of water, snacks & lunch
• backpack to hold gear
• Weather-appropriate layers (60-80 degrees)
• Trekking poles (optional)
• Bug Spray, Sunscreen, & a Hat,
• First Aid Kit

Experience Level: This is a great hike for both new and experienced hikers. If you’re looking to build strength, improve endurance, and gain confidence on longer routes, this hike will be a solid challenge in a supportive group setting.
