A Cape Horn Birthday - Vancouver Hybrid Club Night

⛵ 𝐀 𝐂𝐚𝐩𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐫𝐧 𝐁𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐡𝐝𝐚𝐲 ⛵
On October 14, 1984, Peter Freeman set sail from Victoria, BC, for a solo non-stop circumnavigation aboard Laiviņa, a 32-foot sloop. To successfully conclude this endeavour, Peter used classical navigation methods along with his experience, knowledge, and wits. He achieved this feat in 236 days, 10 hours, and 45 minutes. On the voyage, he encountered 12 gales, two storms, and a broken self-steering rudder and used two miles of thread to sew up torn sails. He competed in an offshore sailing race from Dunedin to Oamaru, New Zealand, taking line honours in the "Overseas Entry" class. Coming home across the Pacific, Laiviņa passed Mururoa Atoll one week after the French government exploded a hydrogen bomb. Upon returning to Victoria, Peter was greeted with the news that he had broken the existing world record.
