Hands-on Intro to Backbone.js with Nick Gauthier

Backbone.js is a small yet powerful javascript library for interacting with RESTful apis, rendering dynamic content, managing routes, and organizing your webapp.
In this training session, we'll go over the basic components of backbone js, show some scenarios where it can be helpful, and even build a (small) client-side application.

Bring your laptop and follow along during this training session.

Nick Gauthier is the author of "Recipes with Backbone", an e-book covering intermediate to advanced design patterns for Backbone.js. He is a Baltimore-based freelance web developer, consultant, and trainer. He also specializes in Ruby on Rails, and has been writing Rails apps since Rails 1.3.

This will be one of many events happening during Baltimore Innovation Week.

Wonderful intro, but perhaps 'follow-along' might have been a more apt title. It went too fast for me to keep up.

Great even-paced approach to building a Backbone app. Nick wins at live coding!

I'm not gonna be able to make this now, but how do we hook into the session over G+ or YouTube as mentioned below? Will a link be posted?

I'll link like crazy here and on my twitter @ngauthier

Currently lucky enough to be involved in a Backbone.js development effort in a Groovy & Grails environment, with couchDB as the key-value store. "Collections", "Models", and "Views" everywhere - fascinating stuff! I am definitely looking forward to this meetup!

Any chance someone will give a short talk before this starts? I probably won't arrive until closer to 6:30. :(

We will socialize until we kick things off at 6:30.

I'm happy to be on the aforementioned panel and I can answer questions about mobile w/ Backbone. If we do the panel it probably makes sense to have the panel first. Not sure if it's confirmed though.

Also, I plan to broadcast my session over G+ via Hangouts on Air, which will save it as a YouTube video (and broadcast live on Youtube) so you could catch up later.

How 'bout considerations in designing a mobile site? I've been a web dev for years and looking to do my first mobile app - Do I use Sencha? Kendo? JQueryMobile?

This might make a great little lightning talk - quick hits about what you've learned while planning a mobile site.

I'll be doing a backbone.js worskhop. Mostly live coding.

That would be great. I've been looking at the backbone for a few months, would love to talk to someone who have used it in real application

We've covered MVC frameworks recently, but new angles on MVC would be interesting. Want to propose a topic?
