Spring Campout & Ride @ Lost Maples State Park - 2026 Edition!
Details
This will be our 5th annual Lost Maples Campout Weekend, and if you are into motorcycle camping it's something you won't want to miss!
WHERE:
Once again, the club has reserved 5 campsites at Lost Maples State Natural Area! And yes, we sleep in tents! However, in the spirit of full disclosure, we are not hard-core campers, and other than maybe some breakfast snacks we eat most meals at various cafes and restaurants in the area!!
SCHEDULE:
Things all start Thursday--those who want to ride out together as a group will meet at the Buck-ee's on I-10 in Katy at 9:30 AM. We are planning KSU for 10 AM...SHARP!
For the morning ride, we will have 2 stops for gas and stretching. We do a late-lunch around 1:30 pm as we pass thru New Braunfels at Krause's Cafe--always a group FAVORITE! We will get back on the road around 3 and typically hit the campsites around 5 pm.
There are no formal evening plans for Thursday--just set up camp and hang out, swim, hike, run over to Leakey, or whatever!!
Friday is the Main Event - we avoid the weekend crowds and ride the famous 3 Twisted Sisters motorcycle loop considered by many to be the best ride in all of Texas!! We will get lunch on the ride plan is to make it back to camp by late afternoon.
Our Saturday ride is typically planned around the campfire on Friday night. There are many road options out that way--could be as simple as riding the 3 Sisters Loop in the reverse direction. Several times we've taken a trip to Kerrville and/or Fredericksburg. Last year, some went N to Kerrville while others discovered a tarmac loop SW of Leakey that comes close to Del Rio--all said it was AWESOME!!
New this year for the GS gang, on Saturday I will be incorporating a portion of the new HILL COUNTRY BDR-X route! Details still in the works, and I'll be reaching out to any who've done this BDR already!!
Sunday - We pack up at a relaxed pace and head out mid-morning to return to Houston.
CAMPSITE ACTIVITIES
* Bring a swimsuit--the park's swimming hole is always a big hit!
* Lost Maples has some of the BEST hiking trails in all of Texas--bring some comfortable shoes because every year a group of us head out and do a 5-7 mile hike!
COST
$35 covers your campsite for 3 nights and some campsite basics like water, ice, firewood and coffee.
In addition, each person is responsible for their own day use fees of $6/day which is paid at the gate, but historically, we have enough folks with Texas State Parks Passes to cover most everyone as a guest of a person with a pass.
Note, if you purchase a Texas State Parks Pass you are never charged for day-use fees at ANY state park in Texas. These are just $70/yr, so you will want to consider this option if you utilize Texas state parks regularly.
REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT:
Riders are encouraged to use this MeetUp event notice to mark their interest in attending, but actual registration for this event is done using the club's WEB site since it can handle payments.
The official registration opens March 1--an e-mail will be forthcoming to all club members. Note - We've not sold out before, but we've come close, so you will want to register ASAP once the link is sent out.
ADMINISTRATIVE NOTE - Because of the popularity and limited space for this event (25), it is open ONLY to current members of the BMW Motorcycle Club of Houston. If we still have some open space on April 1--we will consider opening up the registration link to non-club members.
