LA Fires – Volunteering - part 1

These last few days have been really sad and scary out here and my heart goes out to everyone whose lost loved ones, their pets, their homes or their livelihood and to everyone that’s been displaced in any way by these fires.

If you are interested in volunteering or donating food, clothes, etc. the Santa Anita racetrack donation center can use more assistance. The donation center is located outside in the parking lot and the best gate to enter is Gate 3 by Huntington Drive and Holly Avenue.

They have bags and bags of donated items that still need to he sorted and they are accepting all types of items.

If you plan to volunteer they need help in sorting through the donating items and then placing them in their respective areas.

If you plan to donate items, it would be helpful if they were already somewhat sorted into different bags before you bring them over.

The categories of items that I saw there include:
Men’s Clothing;
Women’s Clothing;
Children’s Clothing - Boys (elementary grade levels);
Children’s Clothing - Girls (elementary grade levels);
Children’s Clothing - Teen Boys;
Children’s Clothing - Teen Girls;
And each of these categories were then sub-categorized by:
Tops
Bottoms
Outerwear (jackets, coats, etc)
Shoes
Accessories

Baby clothing
Baby products (diapers, etc)
Pet food
Pet supplies - crates, blankets, pet beds, food bowls, etc.
Hygiene products
Toiletries
Bedding - pillows, blankets, etc.
Toys, books, games
Food, beverages, water

The donation center has had to move locations several times, but hopefully they can remain at Santa Anita as long as they need to. From an organizational standpoint, if anyone works at a professional printing facility it would definitely help to have outdoor standalone printed signs made up for the main categories above to make it even easier for people to find the specific donated items and areas that they are looking for.
