## How to Improve Our World by Training Our Mind
We perceive the world through our mind; suffering and happiness are our mind’s experiences. An untrained mind is our worst enemy, and the source of much unhappiness, whereas a trained one is the basis for inner and outer peace and harmony. That is why it is so important to train it.
Buddhism is essentially a method to do just that, and there are many ways and approaches. During this day retreat we will explore some of them, within the context of mind training.
The mind training ('Lojong' in Tibetan) which we will study today's Day Retreat, originated more thn 1000 years ago. It has been annotated in various forms; the best known is Chekawa Yeshe Dorje's root text,'Seven Points of Mind Training'. This consists of 59 somewhat cryptic slogans, designed to be memorised.
The most famous practice included in this text is the so-called 'tong-len' (sending-taking) practice. During this day retreat, Tsering will teach this and discuss more of the practices included in Chekawa's text.
