Japanese Practice Meetup Types
Welcome to our Japanese Practice Meetups! Here’s an overview of the four types of meetings we’ll hold, designed to cater to different levels and interests. We hope this structure helps everyone grow in their Japanese skills!

1. Shared Topics

  • What It Is: A group discussion where we explore preset topics chosen collaboratively.
  • How Topics Are Chosen: Topics come from everyone’s contributions. I’ll send out emails and messages in LINE for suggestions.
  • Preparation: Doing research beforehand is helpful if you want to contribute, but it’s not required.
  • Structure: Collaborative discussion; meetings can cover one or multiple topics.

2. Individual Topics

  • What It Is: We sign up to present a topic and talk for 15 minutes straight. More preparation for those who want to grow by sharing something you're interested in- 日本語で。
  • How to Sign Up: I’ll send out emails, texts, and messages in the LINE group chat.
  • Language Use: Present as much as possible in Japanese.
  • Guidelines: Stick to topics you’re confident about. After the presentation, we’ll have a group discussion.

3. Conversation

  • What It Is: Free-flow conversation focused on speaking in Japanese 90% of the time.
  • What If I’m Not Confident?: Listen to others, look things up, and try as hard as you can to speak Japanese.
  • Conversation Tips: Be interested in the other person’s life; no prompts are necessary.
  • Group vs. 1-on-1: We’ll pair off by counting odd numbers unless someone specifically wants to be in a group.

4. New to Japanese

  • What It Is: A free-flow meeting for beginners where anyone can come to learn or teach.
  • Who Can Attend: Anyone! No prior knowledge of Japanese is necessary.
  • Teaching Role: Teach only within your level of expertise.
  • Resources: I’ll bring books and materials to help.
  • Ask Anything: Feel free to ask for help with any question or topic.
