With all the snow expected this coming week, it will be nice to take the opportunity to try breaking trail. This event will take us to the Gold Fork Hot Springs parking lot to use as a trailhead. From there, the road beyond the springs is not maintained, or groomed. Trail will be an up and back, so getting lost is not an issue. PPL are welcome to use shoes or skis, just please respect each other's tracks. As this is not groomed, we will be breaking trail. How far we go up will be group dynamics.
We will meet at Winco parking lot by Epic Shine Car Wash. 2836 E State Street. From there we will establish shuttles. The road from highway to hot springs is expected to be snow-covered. Vehicles should be capable of driving on packed snow....tires rated only for highway may find it slippery.
Those accepting rides are expected to chip in money to the shuttle driver. The springs are about 6 miles off of Highway 55. Turn off is about 3/4 distance between Cascade and Donnelly, with signs marking the turn off. Here is a link:
We drive to hot springs parking lot, and from there we put on gear to wander further up the unmaintained road. The spring owners like to hike/ski up that way, and have stated there are hot spring spots that make for some interesting ice and snow formations.
Group dynamics about who ski's vs. shoes and how far we go will be established when we get there.
Upon return to the parking lot, those interested in a soak are welcome to do so. This is one of my favorite commercial springs just for aesthetics alone. Primary pool is hottest, with overflow to other pools cooling the further "Downstream" you go. Cost is $10. Changing room is a yurt split in 2, for male/female dressing.
