In this talk, Aaron Day shares a straight-talk look at what it really takes for creative professionals to start and run a business, based on 20+ years of experience across freelancing, agencies, and client work of all shapes and sizes.

We’ll cover why people are drawn to working for themselves, the hard realities most don’t hear upfront, and the key differences between freelancing and building an agency. You’ll get a practical, high-level walkthrough of the foundations that matter, money, clients, boundaries, systems, and how work actually comes through the door when you’re on your own.

Whether you’re just curious, freelancing on the side, or already independent and looking to level up, you’ll leave with clearer expectations, fewer blind spots, and concrete next steps to decide if this path makes sense for you, and how to approach it intentionally if it does.
