Villiera Wildlife Sanctuary game drive and wine taste.

Details

Join us to explore a wildlife sanctuary located on a winery in Stellenbosch. A wide variety of mammals including springbok, kudu, black wildebeest, bush pigs, zebra and giraffe can be spotted on a guided game drive that's followed by an excellent wine taste.
Learn also about the conservation projects, environmental awareness, water conservation and natural methods of pest control that are close to the heart of this wine estate. Afterwards, taste excellent grape varietals produced in the Cape Winelands while unwinding amid ancient oak trees. Weather permitting, Villiera offers two drives in the morning and one in the afternoon, which will take about two hours.

Basic agenda:
We will report at Villiera Wine Estate's reception by 08:45 and meet our knowledgeable guide. Imdemnity forms will have to be filled in, before embarking on the 2 hour game drive. The guide will stop at certain places to convey information about:

  • Owethu Clinic, accessible to farmworkers from neighbouring farms, an educational centre and aftercare on the farm.
  • Information about the existing antelope on the farm.
  • The 12 dams, which attract a remarkable diversity of birdlife.
  • Please take note of Table Mountain and Lion’s Head in the distance and the perfect small replicas to the mountains behind you during the guided trip. There is Little Table Mountain and Little Lion’s Head.
  • The area you’ll drive through also has been planted by huge amounts of indigenous trees, a large number of which are spekboom, which absorb carbon dioxide.
  • Villiera staff planted seedlings in milk containers and took care of them, and when they were ready for transplanting, these were then bought by the farm and planted in the land.
  • Tractors are utilised as little as possible to avoid compacting the soil and burning unnecessary fuel.
  • The farm makes efforts to attract birds of prey to control smaller birds that might eat the grapes.
  • The Pebbles Project empowers children of farm workers and even has a traveling toy library.

After the game drive, we will be enjoying a sociable wine taste under ancient oak trees or inside the wine tasting room at the fireplace.

Fee to join event: R50. Cash on the day or EFT on the day.
R370 permit for the guided activity payable at Villiera on the day of the activity.
As soon as the group exceeds 10 people, we need to arrange a second safari vehicle requiring a deposit from us to confirm our appointment.
This deposit will be refunded if the event is cancelled due to rain.
