Constantia Corner, Camel Rock, Klassenkop and Cecilia Ridge hike

Details
The Protea season on Table Mountain is in full swing, with the King Protea in bloom during August and September. The King Protea is South Africa's national flower and can be found in the Western Cape, particularly on Table Mountain where it adds a burst of colour to the landscape.
Join us for an adventure to explore other notable Fynbos plants of Table Mountain National Park as well as the deep gorges, ravines, and distinctive rock formations like Camel Rock that have been sculpted by the forces of wind, water, and ice over millions of years.
Hike Details:
- Circular 12 km hike.
- Elevation gain: more than 700 meters.
- Grade 3B hike
- Duration: approximately 5-6 hours, depending on length of rest breaks.
- Difficulty: intermediate hike with some mild bouldering and scrambling sections, clear mountain paths.
Basic agenda:
Follow the pin location to Constantia Nek parking area where this hike starts and ends. Following a short section of the Hoerikwaggo trail, a cemented path is reached. This cement path is called the Bridal path, built in 1897. Next follows Eagle's Nest (421m) where we start ascending towards Belle Ombre (725m) that offers panoramic views of Orange Kloof, Vlakkenberg and Constantia's vineyards.
Belle Ombre is a French word meaning "Beautiful Shade" and this will be the perfect spot for having a break while enjoying the magnificent scenery. The mountain path flattens out and continues through thick fynbos vegetation and magic rock formations until Camel Rock is reached.
Then we will follow a footpath passing Elsie's Pool towards Klassenkop (742 m) which is one of the 96 named peaks of Table Mountain National Park. The path eventually ends up at De Villiers Dam and the Overseer's Cottage.
The Cecilia Ridge path descends back towards Cecilia Waterfall and the beautiful Spilhaus Ravine. Next follows lots of steps descending further towards massive Gum trees called Giants Meet near the Contour Path. We then follow a Jeep Track through a Pine plantation passing the old MTO Offices. After a while we will take a turnoff towards the Cork Oak forest. Cork Oak trees are well-adapted to fire due to their thick, insulating bark, which protects the living tissue beneath from heat damage.
The Cork Oak path leads to the Contour Path that will take us back to the parking area at Constantia Nek.
Highlights:
- Diverse Fynbos vegetation, amazing rock formations, Elsie's pool, beautiful views, De Villiers dam, Cecilia ridge, Cecilia Waterfall, Spilhaus Ravine, huge Gum trees called Giant Meets.
- Summit Klassenkop, one of the famous 13 Peaks.
- Cork Oak forest
