Bokkemanskloof to Skoorsteenberg, Baviaans Falls and Alfie's Path

Join us for a 12 km circular hike through some of the area's most breathtaking trails at Bokkemanskloof, winding up to the dramatic Skoorsteenberg, before descending to the refreshing Baviaans Falls. We’ll finish along the scenic Alfie's Path, a perfect way to close the loop with stunning views and tranquil surroundings.

Hike Details:
- Distance: 12km, circular
- Total elevation gain: +/- 420m
- Grade 2B hike
- Duration: approximately 6-7 hours, depending on length of rest breaks.
- Difficulty: Good fitness required with mild rock scrambling sections at Skoorsteenberg.
Sure footedness required to descend towards Baviaans Falls.

Basic agenda:
The trail begins at the steep Blue Valley Avenue cul‑de‑sac and quickly winds into a lush, green ravine that climbs toward the saddle above. The first kilometre is demanding and steep.
At the Hoerikwaggo Trail, we turn right and continue climbing toward the tarred Service Road that leads to Constantiaberg. We follow this road briefly before branching off onto a faint mountain path that winds toward Skoorsteenberg. From here, the path descends gently to the Skoorsteenberg plateau, a landscape draped in fynbos and dominated by towering sandstone formations. It then threads through a rocky gully before reaching the summit of Skoorsteenberg. After taking in the views, we retrace our steps and follow an alternative route, descending steeply toward Baviaans Falls. The path then enters a secluded pocket of indigenous Afro‑Montane forest along the lower reaches of the Baviaanskloof River before continuing to Baviaans Falls.
Next comes a steep ascent to Alfie’s Path, where breathtaking views of Hout Bay unfold once again. Alfie’s Path is an elevated contour trail that partly skirts the northern slopes of Constantiaberg, at times winding through tunnels of dense fynbos before rejoining the Service Road. From there, we follow the same footpath down into Bokkemanskloof.
