Caveman's Overhang, The Enchanted Forest and Hole in the Wall, Table Mountain

Hikers who embrace the thrill of discovery will love this exhilarating journey above Orange Kloof on Table Mountain.
Expect mildly challenging terrain, rocky labyrinths, boulder hopping, and a spirited scramble through dense Afromontane forest leading to the iconic Hole in the Wall. This route promises unforgettable moments for fit, agile, and regular hikers alike.
The adventure continues toward Caveman’s Overhang, where you’ll experience the raw, untamed side of Table Mountain—an outing that blends challenge, wonder, and pure excitement.

This 13 km circular trail climbs a total of 580 meters and showcases some of Table Mountain’s most striking features. Along the way, hikers pass the picturesque Spilhaus Ravine, the historic Overseer’s Hut, and the tranquil De Villiers Dam. The route then traverses the dramatic Orange Face before leading into a short cave that opens onto an overhang, a highlight of the adventure.

Basic agenda:
Starting from the Cecilia Forest car park, the trail follows the Cecilia Stream toward two towering gum trees—aptly named Giants Meet—before reaching the scenic Spilhaus Ravine. A steep ascent along the historic Bridal Path (1897) and Clayton’s Road leads to De Villiers Dam and the Overseer’s Hut.
The real adventure begins at De Villiers Dam, where hikers follow a faint footpath through dense, overgrown vegetation. The unclear trail evokes the feeling of navigating a natural labyrinth of rocks and mildly challenging terrain. Expect climbing, crawling, boulder hopping, and squeezing through rocky passages until you reach a small tunnel cave. Crawling a few meters inside brings you to the perfect spot for a lunch break with breathtaking views over Victoria Reservoir.
Afterward, the path winds through dense Afromontane forest, weaving around rocky obstacles along a rugged ridge. Here, hikers climb, explore, and marvel at the unique ecosystem before arriving at the Postbox and the striking Hole in the Wall—a massive upright boulder pierced by a natural opening. After climbing through this feature, the route loops back to De Villiers Dam and the Overseer’s Hut.
The descent via Cecilia Ridge brings hikers to the impressive Cecilia Waterfall, before continuing downhill all the way back to the car park.
