BOLD is thrilled to host a book launch, reading, and discussion with Jodi Lorimer, Portland-based author of The Labyrinth of Melusine, in conversation with author and playwright Beverly Rose.

The Labyrinth of Melusine

Melusine believes keeping her faerie nature a secret from her human husband is a sensible decision, though her past pairings have been ill-fated. Handsome and charming, Raymond could be the one to break the curse and give Melusine strong children, who might revitalize the faerie people. Their love is true, and Raymond trusts Melusine deeply, even with her one requirement: that she have one day each week to herself. But when court gossip fractures their trust, Melusine's carefully forged currents of magic shatter.

When their children, unschooled in their powers, become overwhelmed by the strangeness of their lives, Melusine's plan spins out of control, leading to betrayal, death, and destruction. Geoffrey, their heir—unnerved by events he doesn't understand—must come to terms with his true nature if he is to save his family. On a frightening new path, he is challenged by a giant, his relentless faerie grandmother, and a host of beings who know his every fear. Will he find the courage to face them, and himself?

Jodi Lorimer is an author and mad gardener, and is fortunate to live in Portland, Oregon, where almost everything grows. In a previous life, she was a professional voice talent and, among other things, was the voice for the Portland transit system, the MAX, for many years. She has written and voiced a series of recorded short stories appropriately titled "Twisted Epiphanies." Hailing from the California Gold Country, she loves history (the older, the better) and archaeology, and as a student of anthropology and mythology, these subjects inspire her writing. A family history and a memoir are in the pipeline. She has two children, one perfect grandchild, a hive of bees, two opinionated cats, and a devoted husband. She has made her garden as faerie friendly as possible and anticipates their arrival any day now.

Beverly Rose is an award-winning essayist and playwright. Her plays have been produced in the Midwest and the San Francisco Bay Area. She recently received her Certificate of Mastery in Fiction from Portland's Attic Institute of Arts and Letters.

Arrive at 6:30 p.m. to grab a snack or drink. The event will start at 7:00 p.m.
