A weekend afternoon book club in Tokyo for people in their 20s–30s who love books, culture, and global conversations.
This meetup is for people who want to share their favorite books, exchange ideas, and connect across cultures.

🧭 Purpose
Books & Travelers is one of the largest young readers’ communities in Japan, created for people in their 20s and early 30s who want to make reading part of their daily life and connect beyond borders.
Inspired by Haruaki Deguchi’s words — “Life is enriched by meeting people, reading books, and traveling.”
While the original group hosts regular reading sessions in Tokyo (mainly in Japanese), this English edition aims to bring together both locals and international book lovers to share ideas, stories, and perspectives across cultures.

👥 Who Should Join
We welcome participants from all countries and backgrounds 🌏
Currently, most members are Japanese, but we’re actively looking to connect with more international members living in or visiting Tokyo.
Some of our members have studied or worked abroad, and many enjoy cultural exchange and global perspectives.

📖 What We Do at Each Meetup
We hold a free-theme “book introduction” style session — no assigned books or required reading.
Here’s the flow:
1️⃣ Short introduction about how the session works (for first-timers)
2️⃣ Quick self-introductions (1–2 minutes per person)
3️⃣ Each person introduces one book they recommend (3–5 minutes per person)
→ After each talk, we share thoughts and questions
4️⃣ If time allows, we move to casual free talk
5️⃣ The event ends in about 2 hours — after that, participants who wish can join a working session at a café (for work, study, or reading) ☕
You can bring any type of book — novels, essays, poetry, nonfiction, photo books, etc.
✳️ Please bring at least one book you’d like to introduce (English or Japanese is fine).

「本と旅人」は、日本国内でも最大級の若手向け読書コミュニティです。
20〜30代前半の世代が中心となり、読書を通じて人とつながることを目的としています。
名前は出口治明さんの言葉「人生を豊かにするのは、人に会うこと・本を読むこと・旅をすること」に由来しています。
通常は日本語で読書会を開催していますが、本企画は英語を中心にした国際的な読書会として、東京で暮らす人・滞在中の外国人・海外出身の読書家が交流できる場を目指しています。

📖 読書会の流れ
読書会はテーマフリーの紹介型です。課題本はなく、自由に好きな本を紹介します。
進行の流れ：
1️⃣ 初参加の方向けに簡単な説明
2️⃣ 一人ずつ1〜2分で自己紹介
3️⃣ おすすめの本を3〜5分で紹介（その後に感想や質問のシェア）
4️⃣ 時間があればフリートーク
5️⃣ 全体で約2時間。終了後は**希望者でカフェなどで作業会（仕事・勉強・読書等）**を実施します ☕
小説・エッセイ・詩集・ノンフィクション・写真集など、ジャンルは自由です。
📖 紹介したい本を1冊以上お持ちください（日本語でも英語でもOK）。
🚫 注意事項：
宗教・ネットワークビジネス・保険・不動産などの勧誘や営業活動は禁止です。
