Riddle of the Dinosaur by John N Wilford (304 pages) - Dinosaur Ridge

Details
The Pulitzer Prize-winning science reporter of The New York Times presents here a "lively introduction to many of the fascinating characters who have pursued and studied dinosaur bones, and a survey of two centuries of scientific thought on evolution" (The New York Times). Black-and-white halftones.
Inexpensive used copies of the book can be found on eBay. The book was first published 40 years ago, has been reprinted, but might be harder to find in a library.
We'll meet at the kiosk by the vault toilets at 6am, starting up the Zorro trail at 6:15am. Sunrise is at 5:36am so we'll have plenty of light.
We can break into two groups. Those who read the book and wish to discuss their thoughts/ perspectives/ individual research can be in one group. The people who aren't really interested in the book but just want to go for a hike are welcome to form a separate cluster. I'll give you suggestions on where to hike. My plan is to go up the ridge as long as there's interest in discussing the book and related subjects, but I'll turn back once the discussion ends.

I prefer to hike without pets or children.
You'll want normal hiking stuff, hat, water, sunglasses.
