Book Description
Industrial Society and Its Future, commonly known as The Unabomber Manifesto, is one of the most controversial texts about technology and modern society written in the late 20th century.

Written by Ted Kaczynski, the text argues that technological progress and industrial systems may gradually reduce human autonomy, reshape social structures, and create forms of dependency that people often mistake for progress.

The manifesto became widely known because of the violent actions of its author, but the ideas themselves continue to appear in discussions about technology, social media, artificial intelligence, bureaucracy, freedom, and modern life.

This event is not about endorsing the author or his actions. Instead, we will use the text as a starting point for a broader discussion about technology, society, and what people gain — and lose — through modernization.

Discussion Topics

  • Does technological progress necessarily improve human life?
  • Are modern societies becoming more efficient at the cost of individual freedom?
  • Which predictions from the manifesto seem relevant today, and which failed?
  • Can people meaningfully resist large technological trends? Is alienation a real feature of modern society or mostly nostalgia?
  • How should we separate ideas from the person who expresses them?
